I want to also point you to this interesting work this one French historian, Pierre Gervais, is doing about how this kind of gay panic functioned in tandem with antisemitism, specifically in the context of the Dreyfus Affair, which I heard about through Tablet and you can listen to a discussion of here (I don’t know how good it is as history, since that’s not my discipline? but it seems legit and is certainly interesting to think about)
