Deborah Edmeades, Bombshell (performance), 1995
After secretly letting off a stink bomb, the artist informally tells the story of trying on and buying the dress she is wearing. She struggles to maintain the audience’s attention as the disgusting smell starts to permeate the air. The audience becomes more and more uncomfortable while trying to keep up the appearance of listening to her. The smell becomes intolerable, yet everybody pretends it does not exist. Eventually a security guard comes to check up on them.
